In a case of life imitating art, Mary Lynn Rajskub, who plays Chloe O'Brian, announced today that she is pregnant. It will be the first child for the 36-year-old actress and comedienne. The father is Matthew Rolph, 27, a personal trainer and Rajskub's live-in boyfriend. The child is due at the end of the summer.

This news may strike some fear in the hearts of 24 fans who are still hoping for a resolution to the writers' strike to happen soon enough that it might enable 24 to finish production on season 7 this Spring/Summer. Since season 7 is said to take place three years after the events of season 6, Chloe isn't going to still be pregnant. Normally, the writers for 24 may write-in another pregnancy for Chloe into the plot, but they've already shot about seven episodes of season 7 without Chloe being pregnant. Also, if Rajskub is indeed pregnant when shooting starts up again, her mobility may be an issue. I foresee Chloe being more on the move in season 7. The plot of 24's seventh season most likely involves Jack Bauer being a fugitive, or working covertly in direct opposition of the government. This being the case, and knowing Chloe's loyalties to Jack, it'd make sense that Chloe would be more on the move this season.

But, that's all assuming that 24 starts shooting the remainder of season 7 sometime in the next six months, which is far from a given. The writers' strike looks like it's winding down, but we don't know that for sure. It could extend for a few more months, for all we know. Once the strike ends, 24 is going to be put in a weird spot. How do they want to proceed? Should they take their time with the scripts and start filming again in the fall and get the season ready to air in January 2009?

Source: Buddytv

Latest from Ausiello...

Question: Is 24 still planning on bringing Tony back as a villain next season? — Kayla
Ausiello: Unless Fox completely scraps the eight episodes they have in the can — and that's extremely unlikely given how much those episodes cost to produce — Tony will still be the Big Bad when the show returns. Even if the strike ends tomorrow, the earliest the show could get back on the air is this summer — and there's no way in hell Fox is dumping 24 onto the summer season. That leaves the network with several options, none of them ideal. One solution is to just kick off Season 7 next January, but by then Jack will have been in hiding for nearly two years. Another, and much more controversial, scenario being bandied about involves taking the eight episodes currently in the can and creating a 10- to 14-episode mini-season to air in the fall. That would be followed by another 10- to 14-episode mini-season — featuring a completely different plot — during the second half of the season. Opponents of that idea have argued, and rightly so, that by splitting the season, you're essentially compromising the show's unique, 24-hour conceit. Proponents, however, argue that these are desperate times. And sometimes desperate times require throwing out the rulebook. I can see that point as well. What do you guys think? Would you rather wait until January and get a traditional uninterrupted 24-episode season? Or would you prefer getting the show back in the fall, even if that meant splitting the season up into two shorter, self-contained chunks? Or do you have another solution?

Source: TV Guide

Behind the Scenes Filming...

Season 7 (Day 7) Postponed...

With the writers strike under way, Fox is switching up its 2008 schedule.

The major moves include indefinitely postponing the premiere of “24,” moving up the launch of “Hell’s Kitchen” into spring and setting premiere dates for several new shows.

Overall, Fox plans a mix of reality and repeats, along with running off its remaining stock of scripted originals.

Even with an ongoing strike expected to dry up scripted episodes, a few freshman projects are being dropped into airless Friday nights.

Fox originally scheduled “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” and “24.” With only a modest number of “24” episodes reportedly complete, the season-seven premiere is being postponed “to ensure that ‘Day 7’ can air uninterrupted, in its entirety,” Fox says. If the strike were to continue pass a certain point that would cause a break in the show, then the network will not run the first 8-9 episodes at all. Which means that we would have to just wait until 2008 fall or possibly 2009...for this season to run...!?

The crew was also informed that if the season was canceled that they would all be let go...!!

Compounding the problem is that one of the lead actresses for the upcoming season is currently on the picket lines with the WGA and has not shown up to film her scenes. Thus, even the episodes that have been written pretty much can not be filmed unless there is a change in the story line for this season.

According to sources the actress on the picket line with the writers is Janeane Garofalo...so at this moment it seems the network is unsure how to proceed with filming if she does not show up to the set.

Source: ODI Blog

New Cast Member...

Actress Marlene Forte has just secured a recurring role on the hit TV show "24" starring Kiefer Sutherland. She will appear in Season 7, playing Rosa Gonzales, a woman who is concerned about Ike Dubaku (played by Hakeem Kae-Kazim) and warns her sister about it.

More than an actress, Marlene is a "working" actress who has proven Hollywood wrong breaking every rule in the book! She sits comfortably at the top of her 40-something years of age and is enjoying a hell of ride carrying now an acting dossier that may very well rival some of the most prominent latinas in the industry.

The story that lies behind Marlene Forte's Hollywood success unfolds like a rags-to-riches movie script, but it is certainly a story rarely told and nothing short of "Forte' Tude"! Her journey from the video counter to the big screen is one of great inspiration and motivation - proving that talent and persistence do pay off.

When Marlene turned 30, she decided to become an actress. That's a late start for most occupations; in Hollywood it's nearly unheard of. But for Cuban born girl named for one of Tinseltown's brightest stars (Marlene Dietrich) perhaps the journey was predestined. Now Forte has carved for herself a successful if unlikely career.

Forte was recently seen in "THE UNIT" (CBS) , "LOST" (ABC) and "CSI" (CBS).

Her other television credits include "The West Wing", "Bones", "Nip/Tuk", "The George Lopez Show" and Oscar winning director Paul Haggis' "Family Law".

Her big-screen ventures include the acclaimed HBO movie "Real Women Have Curves", "Lena's Dream", Jim McKay's "Our Song", and Alfredo de Villa's psychological drama "Adrift in Manhattan" (Sundance 2007), in which she co-stars opposite Heather Graham, William Baldwin, Dominic Chianese and Elizabeth Pena.

"Adrift in Manhattan" premiered at the critically acclaimed Sundance Film Festival this year and was as well an official selection at the 2007 Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival.

On the theater front, Marlene will next be seen in "Hero" written by Luis Alfaro and directed by John Lawrence Rivera which world premieres at Studio Stage Theater on November 10 in Los Angeles. The plays runs through December 16, 2007 and features a prestigious ensemble cast including Ernesto Miyares, Justin Huen and Carla Jimenez.

With a name like Marlene Forte, one can only expect to meet a woman of great strength and determination, armed with a wicked sense of humor and blessed with that certain fiery Latin charisma. And indeed, Marlene wears her moniker quite well. Why? Simply because she has, against all odds, climbed her way to the top one tour de force at a time! Her biography is one that reads more as the perfect script on how to prove Hollywood wrong! The talented Cuban native has carved her path in front of the cameras in a rather unconventional way: backwards, upside down and in reverse, yet always and still proving that acting is certainly her forte. That is probably why she continues to climb to the top no matter what the odds!

Marlene Forte is represented by Tony Martinez at GVA and managed by Paulo Andres at Link Talent Management.

Source: NewsBlaze

DC Filming Reports...

Thanks to Stroche and Spoilertv for the following...

My report from the DC shoots this weekend:

Myself and about 80 other 24 fans watched as various scenes were shot at the JFK house at 33rd and N ST NW in Georgetown. The shoot was outside and inside the JFK house, chosen for it's history, and involved Kiefer (wearing the blue/white striped shirt, black pants and tan long rain jacket/trenchcoat as seen in the promos), Carlos Bernard (Tony, looking bad ass with short hair and black leather jacket as seen in the promos) and an un-named 'bad guy' who implored the fans to cheer for the bad ass bad guy rather then Jack this season...good natured guy. Cinematographer Rodney Charters was on set as well (who I recognized from the DVD extras from past seasons). Kiefer did show up and quickly said hi to the fans as he hopped out of the van he was in, then quickly walked onto set. There were also a fair number of older, white-haired men in fall clothing (sweaters, jackets and ties, etc) who were assembled as extras, but I didn't see them used much in the filming.

As for what was shot in Georgetown while I was there was repeated exterior shots of the house, the previously mentioned bad ass bad guy talking with an older gentleman and then entering the house quietly. Kiefer then was part of the shoot with Carlos as they both talked, walked across the street and entered the house. From my vantage point on the opposite corner (about 50-75 yards away), it seemed as if Tony and Jack were working together or such, because there didn't seem to be any force or anger in the way they approached the house, however one of the prop-masters had been prepping a handgun that he ran over to Kiefer, so he may have had that to force Tony to head to the house. Both of these were shot many times over, and between takes you could see Kiefer smoking, joking with Carlos and enjoying his time on set.

Also, personally, two friends actually bumped into Kiefer and Carlos at Nathan's (bar and upscale restaurant right at the heart of Georgetown at Wisconsin and M St. NW) in Georgetown (perhaps after the referenced dinner from marbethofpob in the Sets and location thread) where he bummed a cigarette off them and bought them all drinks. Here's to hoping Kiefer made use of a cab or driver that night.

I have a few pictures to share that'll I'll try and post up on flicker, but nothing of note outside of the above actors on set and all.

Source: Stroche
Shooting Delayed by San Diego Fires...

Thanks to Buddytv for the following...

The production of 24's seventh season has been delayed numerous times, and they are already on a very strict time table. However, some things can't be helped. The rampant and devastating wild fires that have hit the San Diego area over the past two days have interrupted 24's shooting schedule once again. Or, at least the plans were changed. Kiefer Sutherland and the 24 team were supposed to shoot on the Marine Corp's El Toro Air Station, but cast and crew were hindered and ultimately overwhelmed by smoke in the area. The 24 producers opted to shoot some additional scenes on inside sets instead.

Other shows affected by the fires include CBS' Cold Case and ABC's Big Shots. Some of Cold Case's Simi Valley sets were blown down by the strong winds in the area. Not that any of this should be a concern. The celebrities will be fine. 24 will be fine. The thousands of people evacuated from the area who aren't sure whether their homes and all of their belongings have burned to the ground, they might not be OK. Let's just hope the death toll for these fires don't get any higher than they are now (1), and that the firefighters and rescue workers get everything under control as soon as possible.

In other 24 news, the world premiere of the Day 7 trailer is just two days away, That's right, on Thursday, October 25, FOX will unveil the first ever footage for season 7 of 24. At 1pm ET/10am PT, the big screen in Times Square will air the trailer, and it will almost immediately become available online. The first on-air FOX promo for the the new season will occur during Game 2 of the World Series.

I'm excited for this preview, if only for the fact that we might get a look at Tony Almeida's return. FOX might decide to keep that under wraps until the season starts, but everyone knows he's back already, so I say why not?

Source: Buddytv

Filming Info Rumour...

Thanks to Spoilertv for the following...

In episode 4 shooting right now in LA & DC that Ian Paul Cassidy and Peter Wingfield of Highlander: Endgame fame are starring in this episode together. With CTU dismantled, the show's setting moves to Washington, DC, where Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) faces trial for his actions in the pursuit of justice. Bauer's day gets off to a shocking start when former colleague Tony Almeida (Carlos Bernard), last seen in "Day 5," returns after being left for dead by a terrorist conspirator in CTU's infirmary.

"Tony's uncertain fate near the end of 'Day 5' left the door open for his return," said executive producer/show-runner Howard Gordon. "And since there was no silent clock at the conclusion of his last appearance the '24' tribute to a major character's demise we always kept this as a possibility."

Bernard's return highlights a list of notable cast members clocking in for Season Seven, including the previously announced Cherry Jones as President Allison Taylor and Janeane Garofalo as FBI Agent Janis Gold. And, the faculty are fans of Jack Bauer and 24. Or, maybe just one faculty member. Professor Walter Gary Sharp, who also serves as a counsel for the Department of Defense, will be teaching a new class this Fall called “The Law of 24”. So, yeah, Georgetown Law now has a class solely dedicated to 24's interpretation of the law in regards to terrorist threats. Here's the class description from the Georgetown website:

The award winning Fox Television drama series 24 explores America's fictional response to international terrorism through the eyes of Jack Bauer, a U.S. counter-terrorism agent. Oftentimes without remorse or regard for the law, Agent Bauer is willing to do what has to be done when faced with the threat of kidnappings, assassinations, nuclear detonations, and bioterrorism on U.S. soil – despite traitors in his family, his unit, and the White House; partisan politics; sleeper cells; and hidden agendas. This course provides a detailed understanding of a very wide-range of U.S. domestic and international legal issues concerning counterterrorism in the context of the utilitarian and sometimes desperate responses to terrorism raised by the plot of 24. Course requirements include active classroom discussion and a paper of approximately 25 pages.

Sounds like a pretty sweet class, for law school at least. Is the class, however, going to be a serious examination of Bauer's repeated need to break the law, or a look at all the things that are wholly unrealistic that take place in the world of 24? I can't imagine a law school class taking the situations on 24 seriously because most are completely absurd (which is also why they're great). No matter what the class ends up being, you can bet that it will likely be the most coveted law course at Georgetown next semester.

Source: BuddyTV

New DVD Artwork...

Here's another New DVD Artwork...

Click on the picture to enlarge it...

Source: SpoilerTV via Amazon

2 New Cast Members...

Jeffrey Nordling, who most recently played Brent Barrow on the FX sitcom Dirt, is joining the clock-ticking series as a regular, playing an FBI agent named Larry, per the Hollywood Reporter. Wersching will apparently play the lead female role, an FBI Agent and antagonist to Jack Bauer. Wersching's previous credits include Supernatural, Boston Legal, Company Men, and Star Trek: Enterprise. In more 24 casting news, it looks like Bob Gunton is in final negotiations to reprise his role of Ethan Kanin. The character was Wayne Palmer's Secretary of Defense last season and will act as Secretary of State for new President Cherry Jones.

Most of the new cast members who have signed for 24's seventh go around will be playing FBI Agents, which leads me to believe a couple of things. First off, my earlier hypothesis that much of the upcoming season will involve a manhunt for Jack Bauer, led by the FBI, appears to be true. Also, I'd be willing to bet that with the disintegration of CTU, there will likely be an FBI headquarters where a significant amount of action will take place. While this is a bit of a cop-out by the 24 producers, considering that with the demolition of CTU fans believed that we would see the end of time-wasting office politics, it may end up as a pretty cool idea. We'll get to see the inner workings of an office solely dedicated to tracking down Jack who, as we know, is the baddest of bad asses. Could be good times.

Wersching isn't the typical 24 cast hire. They normally go for established actors who are known for character work, not soap stars. I'm not demeaning Annie Wersching, who very well might be on her way to stardom. If she truly will be portraying the female lead next season, that's going to be a lot of weight on her shoulders. I hope she can carry it.

Source: BuddyTV

More on the Casting...

John Billingsley, formerly of The Nine as well as Fox's own Prison Break, has been added to the Season 7 cast of 24 in the recurring role of "Latham." The only returning cast members are Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer and Mary Lynn Rajskub as Chloe O'Brian. Today, it was announced that FOX would be bringing on John Billingsley (The Nine) and Jeffrey Nordling (Dirt) for season 7 of 24.

John Billingsley has been somewhat of a scene-stealer throughout his career, especially in last season's short-lived, but well-received The Nine. He's going to be playing a character named “Latham”. That is the only available information on the character, which leads me to believe that Billingsley will be portraying a bad guy. Latham just sounds like an evil bastard name, doesn't it? Jeffrey Nordling, on the other hand, will be playing an FBI Agent named Larry. There have been a lot of new FBI Agents cast this summer. How many FBI Agents does it take to catch Jack Bauer?

Janeane Garofalo, Rhys Coiro, and Nordling are all now cast as FBI agents. I could be wrong, but the plot for season 7 of 24 is coming into focus. Jack Bauer is going to be chased by FBI agents for some of the season and, in all likelihood, those same FBI agents will eventually team up with Jack to thwart an evil plan. I hope this isn't the case, because if I can accurately predict next season of 24, it means that the producers will not have done what they promised: get away from the formulas and patterns that have permeated the first six seasons.

Regardless, Billingsley and Nordling are nice additions to any cast.

Source: BuddyTV

Former stars joines ER

Thanks to BuddyTV for the following...

Nearly two seasons after her character's demise on the hit series 24, Reiko Aylesworth becomes the latest addition to the ER franchise. According to TV Guide's Michael Ausiello, the actress has signed on as part of the medical drama's 14th season.

Reiko Aylesworth became a household name as the tough and stoic Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) agent and eventual boss, Michelle Dessler for four seasons of 24. She will next play the new chaplain of County General on the long-running and multi-awarded ER.

Though tasked with administering to the spiritual needs of the patients, doctors and staff of the hospital, Aylesworth's character won't be hiding beneath a habit or bound by dogmatic laws on romance and celibacy. ER's new preacher will be permitted to lead a normal life including the use of provocative attire and the freedom to engage in the nuisances of modern dating. She is poised to provide color to the romantic life of John Stamos' Dr. Tony Gates character.

Since being killed off at the beginning of 24's fifth season, Reiko Aylesworth has appeared in episodes of Knights of Prosperity and the short-lived Conviction, with fellow 24 stalwart, Eric Balfour. She previously also guest-starred on popular series like Law & Order and its spin-off, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as well as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

On the big screen, the 34-year old Chicago native has been involved in two projects that are currently in post-production. She stars as Kinsy alongside ER alum, Gloria Reuben, on the drama-comedy, The Understudy, which is scheduled for release next year. She also appears as Kelly O'Brien in the sequel to 2003's Alien vs. Predator entitled Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem. And they have. Days after the addition of comic Janeane Garofalo to the cast (who we now know will be playing “Janis Gold, an FBI systems analyst assigned to the team investigating the crisis befalling Jack Bauer and company”) FOX has announced two new cast members: Rhys Coiro and Colm Feore.

Colm Feore, who was most recently seen in HBO's film Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, will play the show's inaugural First Husband. TVGuide reports that Colm's character will struggle to keep the presidential children in check. Perhaps one of the kids will be kidnapped. One can only hope. This is not big casting news, but the second name, Rhys Coiro, puts a smile on my face, as it should to any Entourage fan. Coiro is famous for his portrayal of unbalanced filmmaker Billy Walsh on Entourage, a character who has become more and more integral over the past two seasons.

Coiro will play a character who works with Garofalo's, investigating all things Jack Bauer. Coiro has always seemed destined for some sort of stardom. He's undeniably charismatic on Entourage, in possession of a bizarre, magnetic energy that results in some great comic lunacy. I like what 24 has been doing this off-season, even if we still know very little about what will be hitting the TV screens this January.

The question that remains is who 24 will cast as the main bad guy this season. They've gone both the no-name route and the distinguished actor route in the past. The downside of casting someone recognizable is that it's easy to predict who will be evil. If it's someone like James Cromwell, it was impossible not to suspect that he would be playing the main baddie. Expect more 24 casting news to trickle out over the next few weeks.

Source: BuddyTV

Season 7 storyline...

One of the storylines of Season 7 will revolve around the death of the First Son, Roger. TVGuide's Michael Ausiello broke the story, but there's not much news on who Garofalo's character actually is. Vaguely, it seems that the character will be working for a government agency in Washington DC, where she'll be on the team that is investigating Jack Bauer's past. Garofalo has done a fair amount of serious work in her career, so this shouldn't be a huge stretch for her. However, of all the people to bring on for 24's pivotal seventh season, Garofalo is a somewhat stunning choice.

I'm sure that the 24 producers aren't done bringing in new faces, not by any means, but Garofalo has a couple of attributes that you'd think might preclude her from getting cast on 24. One, she's an overt liberal on a show run by conservatives. I know that Joel Surnow and company employ people of all political leanings and it's hard to accuse them of favoritism, but I never expected them to cast someone so out-spoken about her politics like Janeane, who even hosted a liberal talk show. Two, there are certain physical similarities between Garofalo and Mary Lynn Rajskub, who plays Chloe O'Brien. They have some mannerisms in common and have the same sort of mousy looks.

In the end, I don't see this piece of casting news being a big deal either way. I think Garofalo will be fine, not distracting, but without any sort of big impact. The people in the government on 24 are usually interchangeable, and come and go often. Of course, if in her plot line she comes in contact with and befriends Jack Bauer, maybe she could turn out to be sort of a big deal next season.

Source: BuddyTV

Production Delay not to be worrying...

Late last week it was announced that the production of 24's seventh season has been delayed yet again, and is now scheduled to get started on September 10, according to a variety of sources. This may seem like bad news, an indication of a TV show in shambles, but I would advise that we all keep an open mind here. The first production delay occurred when FOX vetoed a proposed storyline that necessitated much of the season being shot in Africa. Since that was nixed, the writers and producers went back to the drawing board. This latest delay comes only because the production team isn't completely ready and prepared for the season. This has been labeled as more bad news. But, think about it, why would we want one of our favorite shows rushed into filming before everyone's completely ready?

We wouldn't, yet this announcement has received predictable admonishment from fans and critics alike. It's like when politicians are accused of “flip-flopping” or taking too long to make a decision: what's wrong with taking the time to be sure of something so important, in this case the issue being, “How can we re-invent a beloved TV franchise, greatly improve upon the universally reviled previous season, and yet still keep all the elements that made 24 a show millions love?” Not something to be taken lightly.

I'm happy everyone over at 24 is taking the time to do things right, and that FOX isn't letting them rush into a season under-prepared. When I attended the 24 panel at San Diego Comic-Con less than a month ago I took away a couple of important observations: 1) The powers-that-be at FOX and 24 realized that season 6 was a big misstep, and they needed to switch things up and knock it out of the park for season 7, and 2) they had very little idea on how they were going to do it.

Which is fine. Solutions don't come overnight. The main ideas for season 7 (woman president, takes place in DC, no CTU, Jack Bauer and Chloe only two main returning characters) are all solid. Every 24 fan I've talked with has been for these proposed changes, if only because it will make Day 7 vastly different from the first six seasons. Hopefully, this latest (and hopefully final) delay will give the 24 production team enough time to flesh out every last detail as they head into shooting this hugely important seventh season.

Source: BuddyTV

Production Delayed again...

24's troublesome production has been delayed yet again, this time an additional two weeks have been added to the run up to production start. Already the series has been sent back to the drawing board once when FOX execs pulled the plug on an uber expensive plot that would involve shot on location action in South Africa. The writers have scrambled to come up with a new plot, already working under the pressure of an ailing sixth season that was critically mauled and failed to live up to 24's ratings supremacy.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the additional time will be used by the writing staff to shape the new plot and build a little buffer before the cameras begin to roll. Amongst other things, the writers have been given the job of reinventing the plot of 24 as the real time drama enters its seventh season. So far, few changes are evident. The action is rumored to take place in Washington DC instead of Los Angeles, and save for Jack's (Kiefer Sutherland) girl-Friday Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub) none of the cast of regulars is expected to appear – in a regular capacity at least.

While 24's take no prisoners, buck up to the pain, and do whatever necessary to protect the country beguiled fans for five seasons, the conspicuous unpredictability and extremism beyond suspension of disbelief eventually caught up with the show, and now fans who failed to recognize the recycled plot gags are beginning to groan at what has become 24's bag of clichés.

Will a new setting, and a new boss, be enough to shake 24 from its self pastiched funk? Is the writers asking for more time a good sign? We will have to wait and see. 24 will go into production October 10 and will return to the airwaves sometime in January 2008.

Source: BuddyTV

James Morrison's return confirmed...

Question: I read on James Morrison's website that he will be returning to 24. In addition to fighting terrorists bent on the downfall of the United States, Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) will be taking on the greenhouse effect. That's right, 24 will be battling global warming, more famously off screen, but definitely on-screen as well.

The word circulating now is that references to reducing carbon emissions on the show will be made when appropriate. The question is, will there ever be an appropriate time? It seems that bringing up issues like global warming is an area where action/adventure television shows need to tread carefully.

All too often, incorporating issues of global conscious can become a study in the most forced writing of all. When exactly is the ‘right' time to make a statement? Bauer refuses to get into the Hummer because of its ‘Carbon Emissions' so he walks instead? Eco terrorism would detract from the point altogether, so don't expect that. Perhaps a subplot involving the presidents wrangling with a feuding Congress unable to reach common grounds on a clime protection plan?

The production itself will be battling global warming by giving location scouts more fuel-efficient vehicles, and using generators and large vehicles that burn bio-diesel products. While you have to appreciate the example, the actual impact outside of the social message is, of course, negligible. Getting that hummer limo off the streets of Hollywood for a week would probably have a bigger impact.

It's not that the topic is not important, and that 24 isn't breaking ground in trying to raise awareness (particularly with an ultra conservative in their production crew), but implementing the message as part of the plot line seems like a move destined for the cheese mill, and at this point the last thing 24 needs is more cheese.

Source: BuddyTV

Episode 1 details...

7 am-8am. Initially it looked like part of that included on-location out of country shooting, until FOX pulled the plug on the expensive idea. So the question that lingers is, besides spending more money, what else do the 24 folks have in mind?

The fact that 24 lasted as long as it did on its monochromatic formula is a surprise unto itself, but also a testament to the terrific acting and cinematic deliverables. Unfortunately, season 6 proved that die hard fans were finally catching on to the absurdity of 24's melodramatic days.

The idea of a major format change was interesting, but so far most of the changes that have been insinuated have actually been done before. Jack working for another agency. Jack working outside of the USA. Done, done. We know there will be a female president, which is yet another iteration of 24's ‘look who we dare to put in the oval office' cliché. Is anybody surprised that Jack will be facing a ‘terrorist' threat?

So what remains to be changed? There are rumors floating around that the ticking clock is on its way out and that 24 may take place over a wider time span this time around. 24 days maybe? Would the change rattle the steadfasts who protested any change to the formula in the first place?

Maybe torture will now be viewed as horrendous and barbaric, and be absolutely forbidden by the president. It would indeed be interesting to see American heroes solving problems without crossing the line of morality.

Whatever changes are in mind, for the time being the 24 cast and crew isn't giving anything up. Should we expect anything drastic though? From what has leaked out so far, it is safe to assume that 24 will have plenty of its charming clichés intact.

Source: BuddyTV

James Morrison Returning...

I play Bill Buchanan, head of CTU Los Angeles, in seasons four, five and six of the FOX TV series 24. Read on to find out where they're going, who might be coming back and what they're planning for lady president Cherry Jones.

Apparently, Africa is hard to mimic in L.A. Have you talked about where you might place the action for the next season?
Well, we are still talking about placing it out of L.A., so that's a good sign.

Out of the United States, too?
No, just outside of Los Angeles, but again, it's not only up to us. I mean that is going to be up to the studio, up to the network, because we have a budget [that] expands every year. If you look at the case of Law & Order where there show isn't physically that big, but they've been on for so long that everything gets expanded. We're using the same people; we don't wanna lose our crew, so we pay them a little more. Same with the writers and the directors, so your budget is always going up.

From the studio/network point of view, they're not crazy about that. So, when somebody says we're going to need another $4 million to go to Africa, it's a tough thing for them to swallow. That is part of the reason behind whether we will go or not.

So, it's still going to happen?
Right now Africa is out, but somewhere in the United States is in, but we are right in the middle of writing, so this is the worst timing in the world. From Friday to today, it's changed 100 percent. We're very proud of the show, we've always been proud of the show; the audience loves the show. You guys have been clamoring for questions that we can't answer from the very beginning. And we were crucified at the very beginning. After the first year there wasn't a single press person who said, "I can't wait for the second year; it's going to be great." Everyone took the bandwagon of "They did it one year...its impossible they will ever do it again." "Never" is what they said, and we did it a third year, a fourth year, a fifth...

[Executive producer] Howard Gordon says you guys are going to try and shake things up a bit because he was like, "we don't want it to be just Jack capturing terrorists and torturing them for the answer for a while..." Have you talked about what that might look like?
Well, we've talked about it, but there's nothing for certain.

Can you tell us about Chloe's character and where she will be in the next season?
Um, no because again it changed from Friday to today. It changed so drastically. I was ready to give you guys the goods...

Do we know how far ahead we're jumping?
We're definitely jumping ahead, but probably not too far. Again, the president's [story] is probably going to depend on how far we jump and what her entrance into the story is.

When you chose the woman president, did you think at all how in the real world people would react to that politically, that you were going to be hinting towards pro or con Hillary Clinton?
We've heard that. The interesting part for me about the show is that our writers are split right down the middle. So, we've had one side of politics saying, "hey, look they represent us" and we've had the other side saying, "no, they represent us," and we've had presidents that represented one side, and we've had presidents that represented the other side. That will continue on the show. Only because the writers are so split...I mean our lunchtimes are awesome. We should tape those, and those should be a show.

On my end, as a filmmaker, especially as a director on the show, I personally don't care. I have no political agenda. I'm Canadian, so I really have no political agenda, but basically my whole thing is [making] a good story. I need the president to have a good compelling story. Whatever side of the fence you think that person sits on is...that's going to be up to you. And you should also know we are writing the story as we go, so it's not like there is a great plan of what we want this woman president to do. We know the first situation, and we know how she is going to react. We have an idea what her family is going to do, roughly.

Have you cast the first husband?
No, Ms. Cherry Jones is the only who is cast yet. Although when people come in to play the first husband, they get very excited over the fact that Cherry Jones is the president.

She's amazing!
Yeah, people are very excited about that, and again, it's also the cachet of our show. We had no trouble in getting Cherry Jones. She's very excited about the show; she loves the show. It's very exciting for us to be at that point now where the show attracts that kind of talent.

Will we see any returning characters besides Chloe? Will we see Kim Raver? I know she has another show...
Possibly...

People also want Tony back from the dead. We get that a lot.
People don't believe he's dead...

How about Curtis?
You want Curtis back, too? It was nice to see total honesty from all the guys, admitting that the fans' disappointment with season 6 wasn't at all lost on them. So, OK, that's great, but what about season 7. The most recent, somewhat troubling news to come out of the 24 camp prior to Comic-Con was that FOX brass denied their story proposal for season 7 (which reportedly included filming numerous episodes in Africa) and sent everyone back to the drawing board. From there, what the producers reported kept in line with their insistence that season 7 be completely different from any previous season. Are their announced plans for the season good ones?

First off, I'd like to make it clear that, from everything I heard from the panel, they are still very early in the writing process and not a lot is set in stone. I'd be willing to bet that they have yet to even settle on the basic plot line for the seventh season. The things they have decided upon, though, are both major and exciting developments. Let's go through the two major announcements.

No CTU

CTU will have been completely disbanded at the outset of season 7. They all made it very clear that there would be no CTU. This will force the writers to think outside the crutch that was CTU. Jack Bauer, for all we can tell, will be acting almost completely on his own accord, which for all Bauer fans should bring full body tingles of joy. Chloe will be back, however, which makes one believe that she will, in some way, be in cahoots with Jack. The Jack and Chloe team has always been one of my favorites on 24, and if my speculation is correct, we should be in for some fun times. So, overall, I can;t think of any negatives to the abolition of CTU.

Washington, D.C.

24 is going to be changing coasts next season. Now, DC has been a fixture of 24 before, but usually just kept inside the White House or the presidential bunker. If they actually shoot the film in DC, we can all look forward to some great locations and a welcome exit from the drudgery of Los Angeles. If Jack is again charged with thwarting terrorists, than the stakes will immediately be raised, given all the important people and historic landmarks in our nation's capitol. Again, I don't see much of a downside here. I would've rather seen an exotic locale, like Central America or Africa, but for now DC will have to do.

All in all, the plans for next season bring me confidence in the producers. They recognized the show needed some drastic changes and have acted accordingly. Hopefully, they'll be able to concoct a great story for the season.

Source: Buddy Tv

Comic Con Panel...

24 director Jon Cassar and producer/writers David Fury, Evan Katz and Manny Coto fielded an hour's worth of questions from Comic-Con attendees and fans. I've posted some of their insights after the jump in case any of them might be construed as spoiler-esque in spirit.

- CTU will be disbanded by the government at the start of Season 7. Jack will be hauled in front of a Senate Committee to explain his actions over the past several seasons. The show, itself, will be set in Washington DC and not Los Angeles.

- While it wasn't filmed, there was an alternate ending to Season 6 discussed. It ended with Jack walking away from the cliff and hearing a voice. "Jack, we have a lot to talk about." Jack turns, and who should he see, but Tony Almeda - alive and well. The panel reminded us that unless we have seen someone dead, deader than a doornail, they very well may not be.

- While a 24 movie won't be made until the television show is complete, one of the devices they considered using for it was making the first hour of the movie in movie time, and the second half in real time. As in, something would set off the clock in the second half. They may not go with this structure, but it was put on the table.

- They thought once or twice about filming a prequel, but realized that the show's drama is dependent on putting people in grave danger. Since we know Jack lives, it just wouldn't be much fun.

- Josh is not Jack's son, but they did consider making him Phillip's son. They decided against it because it made them feel icky. Me, too.

- There are no immediate plans to bring Chase back.

- Peter Weller (Christopher) talked himself out of being killed off before Tony and even talked himself into way more episodes than he was originally intended to be in.

- The fan phone kept on director Jon Cassar's desk will be turned back on in January. Don't leave a message.

Source: TVSquad

New Season to fight Climate Change...

24's executive producer Howard Gordon has announced that the show is making a commitment to fighting climate change.

Producers are implementing a number of carbon emission reduction techniques for the production of season seven, including purchasing all of the show's energy from renewable power sources, and using biodiesel fuels to power generators and production vehicles.

The team aims to save enough energy and reduce enough carbon emissions throughout the season, that the final episode will, in effect, be "carbon neutral".

Lead actor Kiefer Sutherland will also star in a number of Public Service Announcements to raise awareness of climate change - and the issue may even be incorporated into storylines when appropriate.

"We care deeply about this issue at 24, and we wanted to do our own small part to be part of the solution," Gordon explained. "We looked at how we produce the show, and realised that there were some substantive changes we could implement which would make a real difference.

"But even more importantly, we hope to inspire our audience to look at what they can do in their own lives to help stem global warming. We think this will be the beginning of a conversation with our millions of viewers that will hopefully inspire them to take action around the world."

Source: Digital Spy

Ausiello Report...

Question: Comic-Con has started some crazy rumors on possible character returns for 24. According to my 24 mole, producers briefly toyed with the idea of making Tony the Big Bad of Season 7, but that plot was scrapped. I know this because reliable sources say the show recently reached out to Gary Oldman to play Day 7's evil genius. Oldman allegedly passed on the part, and now it's once again up for grabs.

Source: TVguide
